Bar BQ Cafe

Well we went to a new Restaurant last night called BarBQ. The place is located at Pyatnitskya 25/1 very near the Novokuznetskaya Metro entrance (just past the fountain). It is a two story place with a nice dining room on the first floor and a more casual “sports bar” themed second floor. Seating is a comfortable combination of tables and booths with some larger booths for a group..

Our first impressions was a pleasant surprise to find a smiling hostess and cool air conditioned air waiting to greet us! We choose the second floor sports bar and a cozy booth. The waiter promptly took our drink orders and left us to find our choices on the menu. This is where I got my first disappointment, no English interpretation of the menu but this is a new place so I am didn’t hold it against them. (I know, I know, learn the language..).

Out of a pretty full menu of different tastes I settled on the BBq Pork ribs and the “Ms.” settled on the Chicken Shashlik, both dinners come with a marinated tomato salad and baked potato.

So during the short wait for our dinners to arrive I took a moment to survey the place. First thing that you’ll notice is the spacious layout. Unlike most restaurants in this class this place is laid out very open but they make a good use of the space. Second thing that caught my eye is that the LCD televisions are laid out so that there doesn’t appear to be a bad seat in the house, live sporting events are going to be great in this place if they get a good English/Euro sports satellite package.

It didn’t take long for the food to arrive and we found out the second of the nights small disappointments, very tiny portions. The food was well prepared and pretty tasty but the Pork Ribs that I had seemed to come from a piggy on a diet! The chicken from the shashlik that the Ms., ordered was tasty and well cooked as well but even her appetite was left wanting after she finished. Over-all it was good food but not very much for the price.. One other small note, they served the meal on these wooden plate things, not sure how hygienic that might be??

So the verdict? We’ll be back if for nothing else but the beer and the location but we won’t come hungry..

Location: 4

Service: 4

Food: 2 (only because the small portions..)

Price: 3

Overall: 3

They accept Visa/MC, have English speaking waiter/waitress. (forgot to check if they have WiFi, I’ll update!)
